(2015) Essex County Family Justice Center Produces Domestic Violence Awareness Video

Newark, N.J. – The Essex County Family Justice Center has announced the release of a new promotional video that describes how they bring together services for victims of domestic violence all in one location. The video also raises awareness regarding the challenges of domestic violence. Since opening its doors in 2010, the ECFJC has provided a safe and welcoming environment to more than 5,000 victims who have made over 1,500 visits to the Center. The video will be unveiled at the ECFJC’s Fifth Anniversary Building Bridges of Hope Gala during Domestic Violence Awareness Month on October 27, 2015.

“The Essex County Family Justice Center is the first Family Justice Center in the state of New Jersey. We provide accessible and coordinated services to victims of domestic violence by bringing government and community agencies together in one place,” said Mary Houtsma, Executive Director at the Essex County Family Justice Center. With a focus on victim safety and offender accountability, the ECFJC helps victims navigate an often complex maze of government, law enforcement, social service, and health and legal services providers. All services are free of charge and available on a walk-in basis.

Concepts TV donated their creative services, writing, producing, and directing the video. “We wanted to expose the reality of domestic violence in the community and to empower victims to seek the ECFJC’s help,” said Collette Liantonio, founder and president of Concepts TV Productions of Boonton, N.J. The video was filmed over two days and shot on location at the Essex County Courthouse and at the Essex County Family Justice Center, both located in Newark, N.J. Collette Liantonio interviewed victims of domestic violence to document their heartbreaking stories of abuse and inspirational stories of redemption thanks to the efforts of the amazing organization.

“We’re very grateful to Collette and her creative and very sensitive team that worked with us to create such an important tool for raising awareness,” said Houtsma. “The video will be utilized by the Family Justice Center as well as our partner agencies to raise awareness about domestic violence, to let victims know that they don’t deserve to be abused and that they’re not alone.” The Family Justice Center has ten onsite partners that provide access to the criminal justice system, civil legal assistance, safety planning, support groups and counseling, emergency shelter referrals, and help with relocation. Seven offsite partners attend to the health and wellness needs of domestic victims who seek help at the Family Justice Center.

The Essex County Family Justice Center will hold their Building Bridges of Hope Fifth Anniversary Gala on October 27, 2015 at The Metropolitan Room at the Newark Club.
