ERA Committees and Councils

All ERA members are encouraged to become involved within the association and serve on a committee or council. ERA has multiple areas of focus that should meet the interest of each member desiring influence on the future direction of ERA. Member involvement is vital to the success of an organization, and ERA urges you to get involved.

Asia Committee

The Asia Committee meets by conference call and in person at D2C and the Great Ideas Summit. The committee charge includes providing ERA member companies doing business in Asia with a form to meet and collaborate on issues of mutual importance. In recent years anti-counterfeit activities have been a cornerstone of the committee’s work. Committee members see themselves as ambassadors for ERA and welcome participants who are focused on growing their businesses in Asia. Participation on this committee is open to all interested ERA members.

Committee Chair: Scott Reid, Oak Lawn Marketing Group
ERA Staff Liaison: Bill McClellan

Content Committee

The purpose of the Content Committee is to provide input to ERA staff on current issues and trends within the direct-to-consumer industry so as to best enable ERA staff to develop relevant and timely education sessions and online content. It offers guidance and feedback on educational offerings, such as sessions at conferences and content for ERA’s online properties. The Committee holds conference calls and in-person meetings during The Great Ideas Summit and D2C Convention. Participation on this committee is open to all interested ERA members, but does include expectations for active participation.

Digital Council

The Digital Media Council educates on policies and best practices, while providing a forum for interaction and idea exchange for Internet service providers, vendors and the direct response industry as a whole. The purpose of the Council is to provide ERA members with educational and other resources to help direct response companies better leverage digital marketing platforms, technologies and best practices. Last year the Council hosted a very well-received webinar about monetizing social media. Participation on this committee is open to all interested ERA members.

Editorial Advisory Council

The Editorial Advisory Committee (EAC) helps direct content for Electronic Retailer, the monthly magazine of ERA. Members of the committee are expected to generate story ideas, suggest sources for stories, comment for attribution, and contribute articles to ensure that the magazine covers the most critical issues facing direct response marketers. The EAC meets twice a year in person during ERA's Great Ideas Summit and D2C Convention, and holds periodic conference calls throughout the year to continuously review and refresh the magazine's content. Participation on this committee is by invitation only.

Committee Chair: Rick Petry, Creative Writer LLC

Exhibitor Advisory Committee

The Exhibitor Advisory Committee continues to focus on bringing new attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors to D2C and The Great Ideas Summit. Committee members work with the ERA sales team to identify and recruit new exhibitors and sponsors, and they use the Exhibitor Invites program, as well as personal outreach, to generate more attendees. Committee members have also been helpful in identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships with other associations and organizations. Participation on this committee is by invitation only.

Chair: Anat Freed, Kingstar
ERA Staff Liaison: Carol Neher

Government Affairs

The Government Affairs Committee consists of the industry’s elite legal minds dedicated to protecting the legislative and regulatory environment in which ERA member companies operate. Meetings are usually held monthly unless regulatory or legislative activity dictate a more active meeting schedule. The committee acts as ERA’s voice in all policy and regulatory matters at the Federal level in Washington, D.C. Committee activities include the annual Government Affairs Fly-In, in person meetings at D2C and the Great Ideas Summit (GIS) and providing timely and critical educational information to the industry as dictated by legislative developments in Congress and regulatory developments at the FTC or other regulatory agencies. Participation on this committee is open to all interested ERA members.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee meets by conference call on a monthly basis and in person at D2C and the Great Ideas Summit. On the monthly calls the committee discusses ERA’s membership recruitment campaigns, the new member mentor program, and other ways to improve the new member experience. Research has shown that the ultimate deciding factor for most people in the decision to join an association is being personally asked to join. The volunteers on the membership committee see themselves as ambassadors of the association and work closely with staff to ask their non-member peers to join ERA. Participation on this committee is open to all interested ERA members.

The Payment Processors Committee has two main goals: to serve as a resource on payments related topics to ERA members and develop payments related content for the ERA membership. This group meets in person at D2C and the Great Ideas Summit and by phone periodically throughout the year. In addition to focusing on payment processing best practices, the group will also discuss Federal regulatory activities as they relate to the processing industry.

We provide a forum for the open discussion and exchange of information, education, and inspiration for council members. We work together to stay abreast of the continual evolution in the industry. The TV Council holds a monthly conference call and meets face to face at the annual D2C Convention. Monthly calls feature a variety of topics relating to DRTV and often host industry experts to speak to the council on the latest topics and trends.
